a new day has come...

Qiana Tamara Bates (pronounced key-on-ah) was born on Monday September 29th at 10:37 am. She weighs 7 lbs 4.5 ozs and is 19 inches long. Mommy and baby are both tired but doing well. Aunt Kimmie was there and was a huge help. Pictures and more to come when either I or Kim can find time... and fast internet.

what I need from you is understanding...

My sister told me I needed to blog again, and since I can't think of an original topic I will steal a list from my friend em wizzle. So here it goes...

1. 5 things you are good at...
remembering the previous acting jobs of actors/actresses
eliminating awkward silences or tense moments with a joke
finding new and exciting delicious treats
making kids smile
squishing my head into my shoulders, so that it looks like I have no neck and about
10 chins of fat

2. 5 things you wish you could say to someone...
you are right...that was a stupid question
I'm sorry but I'm afraid you have me confused with someone who cares
If I had your life I would just want to cry all the time
You keep talking and it's making it really hard to pretend you don't exist
So how exactly do you afford that cell phone, when you can't afford teeth?

3. 5 times you can't help but smile...
when my nieces or nephew laugh
when watching SYTYCD and someone just performed an awesome routine
when cuddled on my couch ready for a nap
when I get to set-up timers for my fall shows
when a cute, romantic, but completely unrealistic moment happens between two people on
one of my shows.

4. 5 things you do for fun...
watch tv
hang out with kimmie and the crew
have special times with my friends, like lunch with aubrey, or tv time with em
stalk people through blogs, facebook, or myspace
download music

5. 5 cd's you own...
neil diamond "the greatest hits" (double disc)
cranberries "no need to argue"
fugees "the score"
TLC "crazy sexy cool"
Chicago "greatest hits 1982-1989"

it's all coming back....it's all coming back to me now....

It's amazing how songs can be so fully attached to a memory or to a specific person. Sometimes hearing a song can instantly bring a face or an event to mind, good or bad. For instance, every time I hear Louis Armstrong's version of "what a wonderful world" I instantly think of the talent show at Juanita Elementary, because that is the ONLY song they played during breaks...over and over....I hate this version to this day. Other songs bring back happy memories, for instance here are 10 songs that have serious memories attached to them...

1. "Donna" by Richie Valens. True story...my orthodontist had an assistant named Donna who kind of drove me and my brother Jared crazy, and every time I hear this song she is the only one who comes to mind.

2. Any song by the Pet Shop Boys. Instantly my uncle Tom comes to mind. Man he loved this group, and I believe had everyone of their cd's. I can still hear it blaring from their home sound system now.

3. Any song by Simon and Garfunkel. My sister Kim went through a major simon and garfunkel phase in high school, even going so far as to name her toyota celica "cecelia" after the song. I couldn't listen to any of these songs for quite awhile because they had been drilled so far into my brain. But now I can appreciate a good S&G tune.

4. "Hook" by Blues Traveler. Some guy named Zach that my sister knew her freshman year of college loved this band and one night he got really into singing this song at her apartment. It was a moment that forever branded this song.

5. "it takes two" and "joy and pain" by Rob base and DJ eazy rock. Sarena "Woodruff" Sharp taught my sister and I how to do the "running man" and "roger rabbit" to these songs. Thank Sarena!

6. "somebody" by depeche mode. I danced with a secret high school crush to this song at a stake dance, and it forever became "our song" (of course he never knew that).

7. Any song by A Tribe Called Quest. Of course these jamz remind of my youth and my "3 wise men" (brother jared, cousins Ryan and Justin). They loved this group, and I in turn love them to this day. Jared and Justin even did an amazing lip sync to "luck of lucien" complete with crazy masks.

8. "rockin robin" by the jackson 5. My sister Kimmie and I, along with a couple friends did a dance to this song in our elementary school talent show. I can still remember a little bit of the dance....is that good or bad?

9. "cars that go boom". My cousin Cali and her friend Celeste did a little dance and lip sync to this song that they recorded on to videotape. I remember watching it sooooo many times.

10. "lost in your eyes" by debbie gibson. One of the few POP songs I learned to play on the piano thanks to my childhood friend jamie pritchard.

of course there are so many more that I could name (such as bone thugs in harmony being connected to my cousins Daishan and Britney's friend Mitch who knew every word to every song...seriously who knows the words to bone thugs songs) but these are the ones that came to my head first so they make the post.

Can we talk for minute.....

So random thoughts for today....

I have less than two weeks until this baby thing becomes a serious reality. Kind of crazy. My sister is now sleeping with her phone by her at night, in case the call comes. Sleeping has become a complete joke, but that's just preparing me for the next stage in my life anyway so I guess I can handle it. Good thing that I have always had the craziest sleeping schedules anyway so I am not the kind of girl who needs a good 8 hours each night to function. My swelling of the limbs is still an issue, i can't wait for the day when i can feel my fingers again...oh what a joy.

So my yard is in and I have actually managed to keep it alive and looking good for almost a month now. I'm so impressed with myself. But I still have all the pallets that the sod came on sitting in my front yard, and I need someone to take them away. I don't have a truck so I am at a loss....plus where do you take pallets anyway? So does anyone want to have a bonfire soon and need some firewood? anyway, hopefully someone can help.

One show that started a couple weeks ago that I forgot to mention in my earlier post, and i just love it so much is "the shield". Its the last season of this gritty police drama, and I am so anxious to see how it all ends for Vic and the rest of his crew. Dallin says he won't be happy unless Vic dies, but I would be so sad if that happened. He's a dirty dirty cop who has walked the line between justice and revenge the whole series and to be honest death probably isn't out of the question for his character, but I just don't know how I would handle it.

My house is still on the market, and although things are going really slow right now I have had a couple people look at it...although nothing has come of it. I am starting to freak out a little. So much stress right now, but I just have to keep holding on to that little part of me that has a positive outlook on life and hope that it all works out. Kimmie and Aaron are leaving in the middle of October and I would love be done with all this house stuff and into my mom's place when that happens...that would be oh so nice.

Things that make me happy right now...fresh peaches and nectarines (I am addicted), the new New Kids on the Block album (there are some good jams on there), my new bangs (instead of "nesting", I have become obsessed with making sure my hair is prepared for a baby...typical angie, and I cut bangs so that my hair wouldn't be in my face...and I love them), comfy pants (I have always been a big fan of getting into comfy pants right when I got home from work, but pregnancy has actually given me an excuse to wear those comfy pants in public and that makes me smile (I do try to at least have cute hair and a cute top on so that I don't look like a total carnie).

I always feel like somebody's watchin me....

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE TV. And nothing makes me happier than the start of shows in the fall. Most men, around this time, get excited for the start of the football season and are busy putting together their "ultimate team" for fantasy football. Well...I get giddy with anticipation waiting for the TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly Fall Preview issue, so I can research new shows that I might add, and finalize my TV schedule. I have it down to quite an art. I list not only the days and times of each show, but you have to remember to keep track of premiere dates or you might miss the start of the season. The TV guide issue came out this past week, and after skimming through it last night I am excited to see that it looks as though I will have no timer issues, and will not have to drop any shows...yippee! Nothing makes me sadder than seeing that shows have switched nights or time slots and now I have a conflict. I was frantic when I saw that Law and Order SVU, Eli Stone, and Without a Trace were all on Tues. at 10:00, because I had no idea what show I would be willing to sacrifice. But then I noticed that NBC replays SVU on saturday nights.....phew! Hopefully the entertainment weekly will come out this week and I can put together my final line-up and post it for all to see.

But some shows have already started, and that is what I am going to post on today.

here are my

TOP 5 SHOWS THAT HAVE STARTED AND MY COMMENTS:

1. Prison Break: OH MY GOODNESS! Do I love this show. I thought there would be no way they could make a show about breaking out of prison last a few seasons, but not only has it lasted but it continues to make my heart pound with each second. The premise this year is more about revenge, and with the addition of Michael Rappaport to the cast (he makes me laugh) this season has started off with a bang.

2. Gossip Girl: Such a guilty pleasure show. I know the CW network is designed for the demographic of teens and and college age kids but man I can't get enough. It just sucks me in. And I hate to admit it, but I am intrigued by the Chuck character and just felt like crying for him in the premiere episode when he couldn't tell Blair that he loved her....I'm such a sucker.

3. America's Next Top Model (ANTM): Isis freaks me out! There I said it. And why is it that just because a "plus size" model (please she was a size 10) won last year that the next obvious step was to have a pre-op transgender contestant? A lot of these girls already drive me crazy, but will that stop me from watching...heck no. I just need the french girl to be less "awkward", the asian to be less "ghetto", and the lesbian vegan from seattle to be less....well just less everything. I'm also continually fascinated by the fact that a seemingly unattractive girl/ or she-male can take such amazing photos, and a "pretty" girl can be too pretty and therefore unphotographable. And I'm still trying to figure out how to smile with my eyes....oh Tyra!

4. 90210: Loved this show all 10 seasons when it was first on, so of course I had to try out the new show....and I'm hooked. Although I can't believe they made such a big deal about Brenda and Kelly returning to the show and made no mention that Nat (the owner of the Peach Pit, now known as the "Pit") was also going to be back on the show. Plus the premiere episode had some of the storyline focused around the school's production of "Spring awakening" (a musical that I love), so I got to hear a couple songs from it, and that made me happy.

5. Top Design: I've posted before about how I am a sucker for reality shows, and especially shows on the Bravo Network, so of course I was going to watch this little ditty...and I am already fascinated. So far my favorite designer is Ricky Schroders wife...and yes it's just because she's his wife. I love him, and thus love her. Plus she was paired with two complete idiots this past week, and still managed to create a cool bedroom, so I give her props for that.

Motownphilly back again...doing a little east coast swing...

Can I just say the Boyz II Men concert was AWESOME!!!!

Man, they still got it, and we were thoroughly entertained for an hour and half....in fact in could have lasted forever as far as I was concerned. They sang hits from their first album to the present, and I couldn't stop singing, dancing, and smiling. We had the most amazing seats, literally 10 rows from the stage, and I got to share the experience with some of the most important people in my life.

10 years ago I was in beauty school at Bon Losee in Provo, UT and Boyz II Men were in concert at the Delta Center for their "Evolution" album. I really wanted to go, but had nobody to go with me. I was kind of friends with this girl Tamu at school, and thought maybe it would be fun to go with her, so I asked if she would come with me. Well the rest is history and we have been the best of friends ever since. Now, 10 years later, she flew up from Utah and came to the concert with me again. It was so awesome to have her there and helped ease the pain of not having the person who was supposed to be in that seat not there.

See my mom was supposed to go with me and my sister to the concert, and except for the one in Utah 10 years ago my mom had been with me the other 3 times I had seen Boyz II men. She was a huge fan, just like me. I missed her, but I'm pretty sure she was watching from some pretty dang good seats herself.

One of my mother's favorite songs, and mine as well, is "a song for mama" from Boyz II Men. They sang it at the concert, and I'm not gonna lie it was a little hard to get through. To intro the song they told the crowd to call their mom's or if their mothers were there to hold them close and sing this song to them. Kim and I just looked at each other, half smiled, and just listened to the song.

You taught me everything
And everything you've given me
I always keep it inside
You're the driving force in my life, yeah
There isn't anything
Or anyone I can be
And it just wouldn't feel right
If I didnt' have you by my side

You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were grey
Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me
And no one else can be what you have been to me
You will always be you will always be the girl
In my life for all times

Chorus:
Mama, mama you know I love you
Oh you know I love you
Mama, mama you're the queen of my heart
Your love is like
Tears from the stars
Mama, I just want you to know
Lovin' you is like food to my soul

You're always down for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
You showed me right from my wrong
Yes you did
And you took up for me
When everyone was down on me
You always did understand
You gave me strength to go on

There was so many times
Looking back when I was so afraid
And then you come to me
And say to me I can face anything
And no one else can do
What you have done for me
You will always be
You will always be the girl in my life

Chorus

(My short video of their performance)

One of the highlights from the concert was during the song "I'll make love to you" (a classic Boyz II men jam). As in concerts before they passed out red roses to ladies in the audience, unfortunately I was always seated too far away to receive such an honor....but don't think that I don't have one in a vase in my family room right now....cause I do!

Thanks to Tamu.

She and Zandra (another friend that flew up for the concert) bolted up to the front and each received a rose (along with copping a little feel on Shawn's leg).

I was going to join them, but thought surrounding myself with a bunch of crazed female fans in order to get a flower would not be in my best interest at this time (cause you know I would have done what it took to get a flower). Luckily, I had Tamu who came back and gave me her flower....this is why I love her.

Oh what a night!
