sleep....baby sleep....

So this week I decided to make a big step and put Qiana to sleep in the porta-crib. Ever since she grew out of the moses basket (about december) I have just been putting her to sleep in the bed next to me... I know I know.... some may say it wasn't the best decision, but it's a queen bed, it's only me in it, and I don't move when I sleep, so we pretty much both just stayed on our own sides. But this week I decided to start getting her used to a porta-crib since I have some vacations planned, and she is getting older and gonna roll over soon. Well I set up the crib as a bassinet first, thinking maybe if I didn't have to put her all the way in the crib she would be less likely to wake-up...

I WAS WRONG!

Man, the first couple nights were rough. She was up every hour, and not a very happy girl. There were times when I really just wanted to put her back on the bed and get some sleep, but my stubborness wouldn't let me. Then last night I decided to take out the bassinet part and just see if the normal crib would be fine. the bassinet just kind of hangs from the top of the crib and slightly moves each time the baby moves, and i thought that is what was waking her up...

AND I WAS RIGHT!

she slept great in her crib last night, only waking up once to eat and then going back to bed. I even had to wake her up this morning to feed her and get her ready for the day.

YIPPEE!

So now I have to decide....do I buy an actual crib or stick with the porta-crib. and if I stick with the porta-crib do I buy one that will match her bedroom theme, or just get over it and use what I got?

Its fun to have a crib but really not necessary. Scarlet only slept in a portacrib and she vacationed really well because she was always in her bed.

Glad youre getting some sleep!

I'm no expert, but I say stick with what works, even though I did really like that crib you saw in that Walmart add!

make her sleep on the floor, then she'll appreciate a good bed.

Nice, Jared! Real nice. I say just keep the portacrib.

Stick with the portacrib if it's working. Like Kacey said, that will make vacations so much easier! Even though it may not totally match your bedroom theme, it's a fairly simple color and pattern so it's not going to stand out big time. I'm so glad you are getting sleep!!!

Angie, good job hanging in there and being stubborn. You will need that as a mom. My babies have always slept in their pac-n-play. That way, wherever I go, they sleep awesome. So even if I am at a friends house watching a movie, I can put my baby down. As for matching the room...well, I'm so practical, I tend to think it doesn't matter. Love all your stories.

The comment I wanted to post is almost exactly the same as everyones. I love porta cribs. The mesh sides are so cozy when babies start moving around in the night. I love it because my kids always have a mesh pattern on their faces...because they love to cozy up to the sides.

oh my gosh you are a genius! I've been going through the same thing with Sayda! I'm gonna try lowering her porta-crib TONIGHT! Cross your fingers for me!!! =) *I dunno though- I really like having her sleep right next to me... but I guess I shouldn't get her in the habit... Demy's getting a little envious anyway! lol ;)*

PORTACRIB! Take a lesson from Cali! At first I was not a believer but after doing it with Hendrix... all my kids will sleep in port-a-cribs!-Nena

Okay, apparently I am the only one not for the portacrib, but here is my thought: how good can it really be to have them on a hard thing day in and day out? I do it maybe once or twice a week, but for all naps and all night? I really have no idea if it is bad for their little backs or not, maybe not, but just in case, I try to use our crib and its soft mattress more. But cribs are expensive...So we got ours at a once upon a baby for $100 and have loved it.

I am so glad you figured out the problem so quickly! It makes for happier baby, and therefore happier mommy! As for the crib, go with what works for you! It is cute to have the room all finished with a cute crib, but if she loves the porta....

I have five children and they all still sleep with us.

Go Ang!

(Ok, the seven and ten year old do not, but we really do wake up with five people in our very small queen size bed. There are some great parts to the Family Bed. However, sometimes we wake up with five people in our bed!!(:)

I say do whatever works for you and Qiana. My girls both slept in cribs, but that's just because we had one (a hand me down, thanks Nena) and we had the room. If she sleeps well in a port-a-crib and you are gonna be traveling...why not?
